Exclusive South Coast by Super Jeep: Hidden Gems & Iconic Sights
Buckle up for an epic South Coast adventure where waterfalls thunder, glacier rivers splash beneath your tires, and black sand beaches stretch to the horizon. This isn’t your average sightseeing tour—it’s a rugged, small-group experience that takes you deeper into Iceland’s dramatic landscapes, all from the comfort of a luxury Super Jeep.
Your journey begins with a morning pick-up in Reykjavík, where your expert local guide welcomes you aboard a specially modified Super Jeep—custom-built for Iceland’s roughest terrain. As you leave the city behind, the scenery quickly shifts from urban to otherworldly, with moss-covered lava fields, open farmlands, and towering volcanic peaks lining the route.
Gígjökull Glacier Tongue & Eyjafjallajökull's Story
Your first major destination is the glacier tongue of Gígjökull, a striking outlet of the famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. To get there, we’ll venture off the main road and deep into the rugged highlands. This is where the Super Jeep earns its name—splashing through unbridged glacier rivers, bouncing over volcanic tracks, and crossing terrain that’s completely inaccessible to standard vehicles.
As you approach Gígjökull, the landscape becomes more dramatic: braided rivers, black sands, and rocky ridges shaped by volcanic forces and glacial meltwater. Your guide will share the gripping story of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption, which made headlines around the world. You’ll hear how the powerful floods from the eruption carved out the landscape before you—leaving behind scars, stories, and a newfound respect for nature’s force.
You’ll step out at the foot of the glacier tongue to take in the surreal beauty of the ice against the dark volcanic rock. It’s a quiet, powerful moment that few visitors get to experience.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Next, you’ll head to the ever-popular Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Fed by glacial meltwater, this tall and narrow cascade plunges over a curved cliff, creating a rare opportunity to walk behind the waterfall’s curtain—weather permitting. Be prepared to get a little misted as you explore the path and take in the falls from all angles.
A Remote Black Sand Beach Adventure
From there, the adventure takes a dramatic turn as you head to a remote black sand beach far from the usual tourist trails. While most of Iceland’s beaches are off-limits to vehicles, we have special permission to drive here, making this moment truly unique. With the tires deflated for a smoother ride, your Super Jeep cruises parallel to the crashing white surf of the North Atlantic, across pitch-black volcanic sands that stretch for kilometers. There are no crowds, no footprints—just you, the ocean, and the wild, cinematic beauty of Iceland’s raw south coast. Few travelers ever get to experience this. With the vast shoreline, moody skies, and distant glacier views, it feels more like a movie scene than real life—raw, wild, and unforgettable.
Skógafoss & the Return to Reykjavík
Before heading back to the city, you’ll make one final stop at the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall—one of Iceland’s most photographed natural wonders. Here, you can get up close to the roaring falls, climb the stairs to a panoramic viewpoint, or just take a breath and reflect on the day’s adventures.
As your guide reinflates the Jeep’s tires, you’ll enjoy the last leg of your scenic drive back to Reykjavík, filled with stories, photos, and memories of Iceland’s untamed South Coast.

Super Jeep models differ in size, which inevitably affects the number of people that can fit. For example, the Toyota Hilux seats up to four passengers plus a driver, while vehicles like the Mercedes Sprinter can have space for up to 17.
Most other models have space for people somewhere between these two extremes. You can trust that they’re ideal for a small group excursion!

A Super Jeep is essentially a very robust type of all-terrain vehicle with four-wheel drive. It’s designed to take you off-road and onto landscapes that few other people see on conventional tours.
The name "jeep" is said to have originated from World War II when the US Army brought their "general purpose vehicle" over. The phrase “general purpose” or “GP” was slurred until the name stuck as “jeep.” This name was translated to Icelandic as “jeppi.” When the vehicles began to be modified with bigger tires, they called them “super jeeps.”
But they’re not vehicles that you can buy. Typically, they’re modified and refurbished so that they better respond to the local conditions.
