Explore the Untouched Heart ofthe Icelandic Highlands by Super Jeep
Iceland Highlands & South Coast Super Jeep Adventure Iconic sights. Hidden wilderness. One unforgettable ride.
Leave the crowds behind and dive into Iceland’s wildest landscapes on this unforgettable full-day Super Jeep tour. We combine the country’s most iconic sights with the remote, untamed beauty of the Icelandic Highlands—places that most people can only reach on foot, over several days.
The Journey Begins in Reykjavík
We begin with pickup in Reykjavík and set off along the stunning South Coast. As the city disappears in the rearview mirror, the landscape transforms into farmlands and moss-covered lava fields, then black sand plains and crashing waves.
We stop at some of Iceland’s most beloved natural wonders:
- Seljalandsfoss – the waterfall you can walk behind
- Skógafoss – thunderous and majestic
- Reynisfjara – the dramatic black sand beach with towering sea stacks
Into the Highlands
From here, we leave the paved roads—and civilization—behind.
The real adventure begins as we turn inland and follow rugged dirt tracks into the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. For a stretch, we drive parallel to and even cross the famous Laugavegur Trail—a route most travelers hike over multiple days. But with our specially modified Super Jeep, we explore these remote places comfortably and in just one day.
The scenery becomes surreal.
We drive through black volcanic deserts, cross glacial rivers, and wind through mossy green mountains. The colorful rhyolite hills, the emerald lakes, and the towering glaciers of Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull make this one of the most visually stunning regions in all of Iceland.
Hidden Wonders of the Highlands
We stop at several truly remote locations, including:
- Mt. Mælifell – a striking green volcano rising from the sands
- Laufafell – a serene mountain lake nestled in mossy hills
- Álftavatn – a peaceful lake surrounded by rhyolite slopes
- And hidden waterfalls few travelers ever get to see
This is not just a tour—it’s a journey into Iceland’s raw, untouched heart.

Super Jeep models differ in size, which inevitably affects the number of people that can fit. For example, the Toyota Hilux seats up to four passengers plus a driver, while vehicles like the Mercedes Sprinter can have space for up to 17.
Most other models have space for people somewhere between these two extremes. You can trust that they’re ideal for a small group excursion!

A Super Jeep is essentially a very robust type of all-terrain vehicle with four-wheel drive. It’s designed to take you off-road and onto landscapes that few other people see on conventional tours.
The name "jeep" is said to have originated from World War II when the US Army brought their "general purpose vehicle" over. The phrase “general purpose” or “GP” was slurred until the name stuck as “jeep.” This name was translated to Icelandic as “jeppi.” When the vehicles began to be modified with bigger tires, they called them “super jeeps.”
But they’re not vehicles that you can buy. Typically, they’re modified and refurbished so that they better respond to the local conditions.
