Explore Þingvellir National Park & Silfra
The Þingvellir and Silfra transfer service takes you to one of Iceland's most iconic sites. It's ideal for those needing transportation for their snorkelling or diving tour at Silfra, and those wishing to explore Þingvellir National Park independently.
The Þingvellir transfer takes you to the Visitor Center, conveniently located near the viewing platform in Þingvellir National Park and within walking distance of key locations in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Those exploring Þingvellir on their own have 4 hours to discover all the park has to offer. With well-marked hiking trails and plenty of attractions to visit, you can easily venture off the beaten path and escape the crowds.
For those heading to the Silfra fissure for snorkelling or diving, you'll have about 15-20 minutes to visit the viewing platform.
From there, you can admire the Þingvellir Rift Valley, the only place on earth where you can see two tectonic plates drifting apart on the surface, and enjoy views of Þingvellir National Park and Lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland's largest lake. Be mindful of time to avoid missing the bus to the dive site!
The transfer departs from the BSI Bus terminal in Reykjavík, with optional hotel pick-up available at extra cost, starting 30 minutes before the departure time.
Þingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park
Whether you choose the morning or afternoon tour, Þingvellir National Park offers a glimpse into Iceland's natural wonders and geological phenomena. Here, the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a few centimetres per year. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Þingvellir holds significant historical and geological importance.
Silfra Fissure: A Geological Wonder
Nestled in Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is a stunning fissure marking the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Formed by seismic activity in 1789, Silfra continues to widen as the plates drift apart by about 2 centimeters per year. It's the only place in the world where you can dive or snorkel directly between two tectonic plates.
Silfra's waters, fed by glacial meltwaters from Langjökull glacier, travel through porous lava rock for decades, emerging with unparalleled clarity and underwater visibility exceeding 100 meters. Despite temperatures between 2°C to 4°C year-round, the constant flow of fresh water keeps Silfra liquid, offering a clear view into its depths. Renowned for its clarity, Silfra's waters invite adventurers to experience their purity firsthand.
