Embark on an icy adventure: Glacier Walk and Lagoon Cruise Combo.
Take your Iceland self-drive adventure to the next level with this combo tour on a beautiful outlet glacier and a boat ride along a stunning lagoon. Experience the beauty of Iceland’s mighty glaciers on foot and in water. Expect an easy tour with a 3.5-hour guided glacier walk and a 1.5-hour scenic boat ride on the Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
Arrive at base camp in Skaftafell at least 20 minutes before the time of tour departure at the National Park Visitor’s Centre. The tour starts with your experienced and qualified glacier guide providing safety information and outfitting you with the gear for the glacier, including an ice axe, crampons and a harness.
Once comfortable with the instructions and gear, you will be led to the outlet glacier, where your adventure awaits. Once you step onto the glacier will feel as if you have been transported to another planet. As your guide leads you through a sea of glacial ice sculptures, ice ridges and deep crevasses, you will see stunning scenery as far as the eye can see. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the power of a glacier in person.
The glacier features kilometres of white, pure ice intertwined with blue and smoky hues in interesting shapes formed by compression. It’s a wide-open space, sitting on top of active volcanoes. You will experience whipping winds, sky-high elevations, and cold temperatures; it’s exhilarating. Your trained guide will explain aspects of the glacier and keep you safe along the way.
After your exciting glacier hike, you will drive your rental car to Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon, which takes about 40 minutes. You will meet the Zodiac boat team at Fjallsárlón, who will suit you up for the boat tour at the time on your voucher, and when everyone is ready, you will head out onto the pristine ice lagoon. The small and agile Zodiac boats allow you to sail close to the towering icebergs. Your boat will get close to the massive icefall of Fjallsjökull glacier terminal face, and if you’re lucky, you might see a piece break off the glacier’s edge into the lagoon.
Please note: The boat tour starts approximately 1.5-2 hours after you finish your glacier walk, giving you enough time to have lunch (not included) between tours and drive to Fjallsárlón base camp. The restaurant Frost at Fjallsárlón offers a good selection of meals, including soups and sandwiches.
